Bed bugs in Massachusetts

This week I came across an interesting article about a bed bug encounter in an upscale hotel. This sort of thing happens often, but this particular story is a little more interesting because it involves a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. This hotel was in Oklahoma City, but it serves as a good reminder for all of us here in this area that bed bugs in Massachusetts are a real problem and something we should be aware of whenever we travel. bed bugs in massachusetts

The Cav's player who got bit was All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. It was initially reported that he had flu-like symptoms and had to miss the game against the Thunder. The team later clarified, and said the problem was actually a bed bug infestation at the Hilton, where the Cavs were staying the previous night. The hotel did respond to the problem quickly and had a bed bug exterminator address the infestation, which they claimed was relegated to one room.

Whether your concern is bed bugs in Massachusetts or any other area of the country, here are a few quick tips on inspecting.

  • Ask the hotel receptionist if the hotel, and your room in particular, has a confirmed record of bed bugs.
  • Get your luggage off the ground. Use the luggage rack, which is usually located in the closet.
  • Look closely at the seems of your mattress and box spring. Bed bugs prefer to hide in tight spaces, so these areas, along with the bed frame, are common spots.
