Clark Griswold and the family are terrorized by a squirrel which made it's way into their home by hitching a ride in their Christmas tree. Although that's quite possible in any home, there are other pest-related problems that are far more common. Insects coming from Christmas trees in New England are a fairly [regular Massachusetts pest control problem.](https://info.burgesspest.com/massachusetts-rodent-control-season) ![insects coming from christmas trees](https://blog.burgesspest.com/hs-fs/hubfs/christmastreefireside.jpg?width=538&name=christmastreefireside.jpg "insects coming from christmas trees") Several types of beetles tend to be the most common insect to come in on Christmas trees, but it's also possible that [ants](http://www.burgesspest.com/ants-pest-management/), [spiders](http://www.burgesspest.com/massachusetts-pest-library/spiders-pest-management/), and sowbugs will appear. The reason they become active is that while nesting in the tree outside where it's cold, insects will be fairly inactive. But once inside where the heat is on, they become active again. Most of these Christmas tree insects are considered nuisance pests. However, that's not to say you want them inside your home! That's where your friends at [Burgess Pest Management](http://www.burgesspest.com/) come sliding down your chimney to save the day. We greatly discourage you from applying your own insecticide to the tree. This can be hazardous to the health of you and your family. Insect problems should be managed by a professional, like Burgess Pest, which is capable of safely and effectively treating your home.
