Lyme disease in Massachusetts

Ticks that carry Lyme disease are now found in almost half of U.S. counties, according to a report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, which was recently published by Doctors Health Press. Lyme disease in Massachusetts also continues to rise, as the CDC reports a 320% increase in counties in the Northeast considered "high risk" for Lyme disease. Massachusetts ticks

An estimated 300,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with Lyme disease, tripling the numbers from the 1990's, according to this same report. Due to the high number of blacklegged ticks, the Northeast is one of the most prevalent areas for Lyme disease.

There are some precautions that you can take to reduce your risk of contracting Lyme disease in Massachusetts. Cutting back yard brush and removing leaf clutter and debris are two ways that you can remove conditions that are favorable to ticks.
