In the past few weeks, the offices here at Burgess Pest Management have received an increase in the number of calls about Termites swarming in eastern Massachusetts. In an earlier blog post, we highlighted how to spot a termite swarm in your Massachusetts home. Today, we would like to share a few facts about Termite Swarmers.
- During Spring, when will you see a swarm? Subterranean termites typically swarm on warm, calm, sunny days following a rain
- Best time to see a swarm? Subterranean termite swarms frequently happen between mid-morning and mid-afternoon and may last several hours.
- Termites swarming indoors? Termites swarming indoors will attempt to get outside by flying toward light around windows and doors or even toward lights that are on in the room.
- A recent termite treatment may not prevent swarming, as the swarmers may have already moved above the treatment zone in the soil when the application was performed.
- Swarmers shed their wings after flight, as they will never fly again.
