Is August too soon for a mouse problem?
Each season, we can count on certain insects and other pests to become active in our area. Ants are more active beginning May, mosquitoes are biting in July, and rodents typically become a bit more active in the fall. But summer mouse activity in Massachusetts is not uncommon.
During the month of August, we begin to notice additional service requests for rodents. This can be attributed to a few factors.
- If the nights begin to cool off, mice begin searching for ways to get inside to keep warm. It only takes one or two mice to begin a significant interior rodent infestation.
- Easy access points are like an open invitation to mice. If your foundation has structural gaps, you're more likely to experience a rodent problem throughout the year. It only take a circumference about the size of a dime for mice to squeeze in.
- If the weather conditions, including rain, change for prolonged periods in August, it may prompt mice to search for alternative sources of food and water, which could mean moving inside your home.
