Spring is closing in, rewarding us with more daylight, warmer weather, and greener scenery. Unfortunately, it also brings lots of pest activity, and termite swarm season is upon us.

Termite Awareness Week 2021

Termites are constantly on the go, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Cold weather won’t stop them; even snow isn't a deterrent. They simply go farther underground - and closer to your warm home, While winter weather isn't a deal-breaker, termites generally prefer warmth and damp. Spring rain  softens wood and other food sources, and signals reproductive termites that it’s time to mate. Once a male and female pair off, they will shed their wings and burrow into the freshly-moistened soil to start their new colony.

What are the signs of a termite problem? Shed wings or swarming/flying insects near windows or basement areas are often the first indicators. Swarm season may be your only opportunity to tell if you have an infestation.

Is it termites or flying ants? The two are often mistaken for one another, but there are some key differences. Termites have a wide "waist", straight antennae, and two sets of wings of the same length, longer than their body. Flying ants, on the other hand, have a pinched "waist", bent antennae, and two sets of wings differing in length, shorter than their body.

The best way to Protect Your Pad from termites is prevention with a reputable pest management company. Call the experts at Burgess Pest - because when termites don't rest, neither do we.
