Warm Winter Pests in Massachusetts

Thanks to El Nino, the winter we've experienced in New England this year doesn't even compare to the nightmare that kept us frozen for so many months last year. But our warm winter is having an impact on Massachusetts pest controlmassachusetts pest control

The amount of ant, spider, and stink bug activity in Massachusetts homes is up dramatically over last winter. These pests are finding their way into homes through stress cracks in the foundation and other small openings. Normally in the winter, ants are barely active in our region. This year has been quite different.

The other impact that warm weather is having on Massachusetts pest control is that it's expediting the traditional outdoor pest season. In other words, outdoor pests like ticks are more active in mild and moderate temperatures. Whereas last year we had feet of snow on the ground in February and March, this year lawns and shrubbery are totally exposed. Many experts in the pest management industry are expecting an early tick season.

There are also concerns about the Massachusetts mosquito season, especially with the Zika virus outbreak. Many experts are also predicting an early mosquito season in Massachusetts. At Burgess Pest Management, we're already putting plans in place to aggressively treat for both mosquitoes and ticks this spring, likely as early as March.
