The week between Christmas and New Years is a sneaky one for pests in Massachusetts. It's typically a seasonably cold stretch of weather, which continues to put many crawling pests like ants and spiders at bay. However, we find two common issues that are helpful year end pest control solutions that you should keep in mind. 
- Many pests do something called "overwinter." They go into a state of semi-dormancy due to the cold, which is why you don't see them often. They tend to reside in wall voids during the winter, which protects them from the harshest weather. However, when the sun comes out and we get a stretch of warmer weather, as we did last week, these pests will come "alive" again when the sun hits the house. This will stir up their activity and it's why you might see spiders or other beetles inside.
- Mice are extremely active. There's never a good time for a mouse problem, but it's especially inconvenient when you have guests over the holidays. Doors are left open, food is left out, and mice are incredibly adept at finding these vulnerabilities.
