Are you worried about getting bit by bed bugs when you travel?
Even worse, how about bringing them home with you when you check out of your hotel? If you travel regularly, your answer should be yes. To keep you as informed as possible, here are five things you can do to find bed bugs in Massachusetts hotels.
1- Ask questions! When you check into a hotel, ask the receptionist if there have ever been confirmed bed bug sightings at the hotel, and even more specifically, in your room. If the receptionist doesn't know (or doesn't want to answer), ask the manager.
2- Keep your luggage off the ground. Bed bugs love hitching a ride home in the seems and tight spaces in luggage. Don't rest your bag on the carpet. Keep it elevated on a luggage rack, if possible.
3- Know where to look. Bed bugs prefer to hide in tight spaces. Look closely at the mattress seems and along the back of the headboard and frame.
4- Understand what you're looking for. Bed bugs are small and reddish-brown in color. But they also leave behind spotting, which will look like tiny dots.
5- If you see it, say it! Don't be shy about communicating your findings to the hotel management. Even if you're not sure what you're looking at, ask for a trained professional to take a look. The hotel should have an outside pest management firm that they can contact to confirm bed bug sightings.
The bed bug experts at Burgess Pest Management also remind you that visual inspections are not always 100% accurate. Bed bugs may be present, but could be hiding in places that are impossible to see. If you are concerned about an encounter with bed bugs, the Burgess Pest Massachusetts bed bug team can provide you with information to keep you safe and protected.
