There has been a major push to classify businesses as either essential or non-essential, determining what companies continue to provide services to the public. Pest control has been labeled an essential service, allowing Burgess Pest Management to continue operating, with precautions in place to protect the health of our customers and staff. When you think of essential services, the first industries to pop into your mind are probably healthcare, utilities, and law enforcement. Pest control is often an underdog industry—necessary, but not something most people want to acknowledge or discuss. So why is pest management considered essential? For starters, pests can damage structures and belongings, destroy crops, contaminate food, and carry diseases and parasites. The business of pest management isn’t simply about eliminating and preventing pest infestations, it’s about maintaining sanitary conditions overall for homes and businesses. During other epidemics and pandemics in history, it was frequently the decline of [sanitation](https://blog.burgesspest.com/blog/disinfectant-services-pad-protect-disinfect) that allowed disease to spread and claim more victims. Without the control of [rodents](https://www.burgesspest.com/schedule-an-inspection/), flies, and other pests, these populations would explode and result in additional public health risks. Burgess Pest Management has expanded our operations to accommodate increasing demand for [disinfectant services](https://info.burgesspest.com/new-england-disinfectant-services). Our staff have been trained to maintain precautions and social distancing. We are able to provide effective pest management services on the exterior of homes and businesses; if interior services are needed, they can be completed with minimal face-to-face interaction. As always, the health and safety of the communities we serve is our top priority, and we value the opportunity to continue to [Protect Your Pad](https://www.burgesspest.com/pad-protection-plans/).
